The #1 Thing That Lights Up My Life

By: Kaitlyn

I was repressed through my whole childhood. All I wanted was a full nasal experience, but I was never allowed it. It wasn't until adulthood that I finally entered into a whole new world. And my life was changed forever.

My mother never let me burn candles. Ever. She was convinced that if I was ever given a match or lighter that I would accidentally burn the whole house down. I suppose she had good reasons; I'm the least graceful person in the world and I did manage to set my lab table on fire in freshman Biology class...but still.

It wasn't until this year that I finally told myself that I was going to enter the magical world of candles. And enter it I did. I don't have a problem, but you can't exactly see out of my bedroom window because my candle collection has overthrown my windowsill.
I can't stop buying them and burning them and I don't want to, either. I fully believe in the power of smell to transform your mood and the aura around you. So I decided that today, I am going to give you a list of my favorite candles to fit the the mood you're in.

"I want to go to the spa, but all I can afford is Ramen"
One of my favorite candles of all time is one I found at TJ Maxx by the GLAZED candle company. The scent is Citrus and Sage and it smells like you walked into a spa that probably has all of the coolest new kinds of massages that cost $100 per minute. Except this candle was $7 and provides hours of enjoyment.

Are you stressed out? Do you have a migraine? Or do you just feel like you're going drop-kick the next person you see? Calm down and pick up this candle I found at the Renaissance Faire by Wicks & Woods. Victoria makes these candles and she's such a sweetheart. Email her if you're interested ( This candle has rosemary and juniper and it just allows you to feel like you can breathe again.

"I wish it was socially acceptable to listen to holiday music all year round"
First off, it totally is. Do what you want! Also, if you love Christmas as much as I do, then you want it to smell like cinnamon and pine trees all year round. Unfortunately, summer just smells like sweat and flowers, but luckily you have the 'Tis the Season candle from Bath & Body Works to turn to. I'm not even going to tell you how many candles I have in this scent...there was a sale, okay?

Fill in the blank for this one, because this candle is perfection in all forms and fits any kind of mood you're in. The Capri Blue Volcano candle from Anthropologie is the best smell combination ever created. It's a mixture of fresh exotic fruit and warm green scents and it's just divine. If you only buy one candle in your entire life, this is the one.
What are some of your favorite candles?
