August Favorites!

We had a lot of fun this month and went on many adventures. We frolicked through sunflower fields, went to the State Fair and the Renaissance Faire, and met a huge pink elephant. We read a ton of books and reached 1000 Instagram followers, which baffles us. August, you were good to us.

Kaitlyn - It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War by Lynsey Addario
After reading this memoir, I want to pack up my life, grab my camera and go to the middle east. Addario is a Pulitzer-Prize winning photo-journalist, who mostly focuses on war and conflict situations. Addario has quickly become one of my new favorite human beings and this memoir is raw, honest and real, and tells stories that need to be heard.

Sarah - Nonficiton in general
I read a lot of nonfiction this month, which is new for me. Here are some heartbreaking and remarkable nonfiction books I read recently. I highly recommend all of these:
The Opposite of Loneliness || Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland || Brain on Fire: My Month of Maddness

Almost paradiiiiiiiiiise. We're just going to leave this here. kthxbye.

Kaitlyn - Lianne La Havas
She's a kick-butt lady whose music is a hybrid of alternative folk and soul and I'm obsessed. She reminds me a little bit of Prince or Mika. I would recommend the single What You Don't Do

Sarah - The Staves
I had this group in my June favorites, but I've just been listening to them over and over. The Staves are so dreamy and the way their three voices mix is hauntingly lovely. This is pretty much the only music I've been listening to in August.  I mean, aside from the new Justin Bieber songs. I mean .... what?

Kaitlyn - Silk Satin Eye Pillow With Lavender
I get chronic migraines and I'm always on the lookout for things to help calm down my beating head. Sarah Eichborn (a total dear from Milwaukee who has a dog named Karma, so you know she's awesome) makes these eye pillows and naturally dyes them. They're not only beautiful, but also the lavender and silk cools down your eyes and head and helps you sleep. I can't sleep without it anymore.

Sarah - Men Love Mystery
I've been wanting to purchase a purple lipstick for a long time now. I finally did. Now I just need to find the perfect place to wear it out!

Kaitlyn - Couscous
In a recent publication of Cooking Light Magazine, they did a feature on couscous and now I'm obsessed. Couscous is like a more delicious version of rice, but not so pretentious as quinoa. I made this greek couscous recipe and it's kind of all I want to eat for the rest of my life.
Sarah - Mint Tea
As you might know, I'm not great at sleeping. I've been trying some new approaches to sleep, and have found that mint tea really calms me down at night. So far, I've tried Letterbox Pure Tea and Tazo Refresh Mint. Do you have any mint tea suggestions?

Kaitlyn - Emily Ingham
This gorgeous lady created a portrait of us (below) that we are completely obsessed with and we can't stop fan-girling over her realistic-but-fantastical art. See our first Artist Spotlight about Emily here
I've gotta toot my own horn this month, because I've really been feeling my own Instagram. It's great to feel proud of yourself - don't feel conceited because you like what you're doing! I'm loving my Instagram and I'm not afraid to show it off. (If you guys are interested in a tutorial on how I edit my Instagram photos, let me know. Cause I guess that's a thing bloggers do!) Feel free to follow me.
