I love football. I get ridiculously invested in my team (the Packers) and although they weren't in the big game, you better believe I watched every second of the game last night. And like every good pop culture enthusiast, I was there for the commercials. Last year, I was so disappointed in the ads; they were all about how sex sells. But when sex actually didn't sell, the ad companies decided to take a new approach: cute, cute, cute. I love anything cute, so I was pretty happy about this shift. Here are a few of my favorite ads last night:
Cheerios: This girl is all smarts and a little sass. Love her.
Microsoft: "Technology has the power to unite us." I love that sentiment. Sometimes technology scares me, but this commercial showed just how beautiful and empowering it truly is.
Chevy: No words. Just beauty. Hope. Emotions. Life.
Coca-Cola: I LOVED this ad. This celebrated the true beauty of America and of the people in it. People are beautiful and this ad captured that so well.
Budweiser: And finally, this one will be no surprise. PUPPIES AND PONIES!!! AND THEY'RE BFFS! This is cuteness on overload and it was super effective. Did it make me want to drink beer? Yes. So I could toast what a great commercial this was. Also, another prop for Budweiser for this tear-enducing ad.
Last night, there were some real great ads and some ads that were embarrassing (as always), but I was overall impressed. Ads were all about cuteness and emotions and to me, that's the best kind of advertising.
What were some of your favorite Super Bowl ads?
