Two of my favorite bloggers, Melyssa and Chelsea from The Nectar Collective and Lost in Travels, co-host what is called the Snail Mail Collective. It's an event where bloggers around the world are paired up and given the chance to become pen pails. You have the whole month to get to know your partner via email and at the end of the month, you send them a package of goodies centered around a theme.
Sarah participated in the Snail Mail Collective last month, and seeing how fantastic it was, I knew that I had to participate. And I am so glad I did.
I was paired up with Elizabeth (or Lizzie) Benson from Emphatically Elle. In her first email, I discovered that she was a theatre and journalism student, a huge Harry Potter nerd, and wants to be a Disney Princess. Umm...Are we the same person? The answer is yes. As we continued to talk and get to know each other, we learned that we had a ton of things in common, some of them super obscure. Like the fact that we both love The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray, we are/were both editors at our school's paper, we love musicals and we both unapologetically love Taylor Swift. It can't be anything other than fate that brought us together; what else could explain us having so much in common?
Elizabeth's blog is just as adorable as she is. She designed it herself and it's so delightful. Lizzie writes about life, fashion, writing, and pop culture. If you want to smile, check out her blog! My favorite posts of hers include her editorial in defense of the manic pixie dream girl, The American Girl's Guide to Being British, and she made a killer flapper costume for Halloween.
How could you NOT be immediately happy if you got all this in the mail? First off, I just love letters and Lizzie's handwriting is gorgeous! The notepad is simply adorable; a cute font and a bird? What's not to love? The lotion she gave me is my absolute favorite (of course we would have that in common too), it's Bath & Body Work's Aromatherapy Stress Relief. I swear, it actually does relieve stress. Chocolate is always important to have. Lastly, she gave me a book that she loved. Of course, again, I adore Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, and luckily now I have this copy! If you haven't read this book yet, you must. Safran Foer is beyond talented. He plays with words and mixes in media to create, really, a work of art in this book. It's an indescribable experience to read. If you're wondering how he plays with words, check this out:
I think that the theme of gratitude this month was perfect. Doing this made me appreciate how small and beautiful the world is and how we're all connected in little ways, whether we know it yet or not. Thank you so much, Lizzie! You're absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to continue our new friendship!
If you're interested in joining the December Snail Mail Collective go here! You have until tonight (December 7th) to sign up! So do it quickly! Sadly, due to life being crazy, this is the last month that Melyssa and Chelsea are holding this event, so make sure you join before it's too late. It's a great opportunity to make a new friend.
