My latest obsessions

By: Sarah

This summer, I've had a lot of free time. And because I enjoy spending time alone, I've filled this free time with reading, writing, catching up on everything pop culture and finding out things about myself I never knew, like that I definitely want to move to a city with a subway (busses are the worst), and coffee makes my stomach hurt, but I drink it anyway (revelations, I know). I wouldn't quite call my summer a journey of self-discovery, but a testament to living on my own, with very little money. Because of this, I haven't bought a new book, vinyl record or DVD all summer. This is shocking to me, as those items are what I spend the bulk of my money on. I had to work with what I have. I'd like to share some of my newest obsessions from the summer (some that I probably never would have paid attention to if I had been spending money on other things). I'm not including books in this list because I've been reading Shantaram basically all summer. I'm hoping to have a review of it up next Wednesday if I can power through the last 200 pages. So, without further ado:

Movies
One night when I couldn't sleep, I decided too look up all the Official Selection Sundance films from 2013, 2012 and 2011. I watched some awesome movies. My favorites included:

I've also really been into the Independent section on Netflix (Nobody Walks is also in there). Some movies worth watching in that section:

(I know everyone hated Blue Valentine, but I adore it.)

Television
1. Extreme Weight Loss - I blame my mom for this one. When I was home one week, I started watching it with her and was hooked. Every episode has made me cry, in a good way. Chris Powell, the host, is so awesome and seems like an all-around wonderful person. The best part? You can totally watch it online.
Chris Powell. Droooool.
Chris Powell. Droooool.

2. The League - Because I've recently become obsessed with Mark Duplass (Safety Not GuaranteedThe Mindy ProjectYour Sister's Sister), I decided to give The League a try. Centered around fantasy football, I wasn't sure I would like it. And it's true, I don't like it. I love it (I promise never to use that hokey line again). Cliche aside, this show is hilariously awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves raunchy humor or shows like Always Sunny and Scrubs. This one is on Netflix, so check it out there! I breezed through three seasons in about a week.

3. Whose Line is it Anyway? - Has anyone watched the new season of this show? It's still just as hilarious as the old seasons. It's refreshingly funny. I'm so glad Colin, Ryan and Wayne are still on the show, and the new host is great too. This one is also online. Here's one of my favorite scenes called Sideways Scene. It's CRAZY AWESOME:

Music
Some of the new music that I've been listening to:
music
The Civil Wars - The Civil Wars
Jake Bugg - Jake Bugg

Ben Howard - Every Kingdom
Bowerbirds - The Clearing
It's all pretty mellow and great for soaking up while relaxing.

Some other things I've been obsessed with this summer include: sparkling water (the most boring thing anyone could be addicted to), peaches, trying to write poetry, dreaming about moving to Washington D.C., D.C. Cupcakes, Logan Lerman, cats (of course)
