Holy guacamole!

By: Sarah

On this crumpled piece of loose leaf paper, written in emerald green ink, is one of my favorite recipes - Liam's Guacamole. Whenever I read this recipe or find it after losing it for the 800th time, I can picture memories from each time I have made it.

I'm not a huge fan of cooking, but I like to cook from time to time, and I think I'm ok at it. As a vegetarian, things like guacamole and hummus become their own food groups. Being able to make them from scratch is wonderful. When my friend introduced me to his guac recipe, there was no turning back.

I adore this recipe, but it makes A LOT. So, I've slimmed it down a bit. In my version, it calls for:
-4 avocados
-1/2 a lime
-1/2 an onion
-1 garlic clove
-1/2 to 1 tomato (a big one)
-2 dashes of salt
-A dash of hot sauce (optional)

Mix it all together in a large bowl and voila, guacamole!

Because I've been super into food photography lately, and because I want everyone to try and make this recipe, I decided to document my journey from avocado to green mush. Check it out!

DSC_1113 DSC_1129 DSC_1136Yum! I love the color of fresh guacamole. Pro-tip: to save guacamole for longer, throw an avocado pit in the bowl! I'm not sure why it works, probably something science could explain (or Google), but it does.

And, of course I had to have dessert:

I think food is a great way to bring people together. Whether it's going out to eat or cooking a meal at home, food creates bonds. I'm by no means a pro at writing about food, but I like to, so perhaps I'll continue to do it. If you try this recipe, let me know how it turns out!

Do you have a guacamole recipe? Or a favorite recipe? I'd love to check them out! Feel free to leave a comment :)
