Classically Minded Plays a Game

Last night my parents and I were watching Born Yesterday, a family favorite from 1950 about a chorus girl and the reporter that her fiancé hires to tutor her. It’s smart, witty, and has just the right amount of romance added in. I love the story and it’s one I think has stood the test of time. So I started to play one of my favorite games…

Cast the 2013 remake!

Apparently there was a subpar 90s version starring Melanie Griffith and John Goodman as her oafish fiancé. The cast seemed sufficient, but apparently not good enough. Well, here’s mine:

  • Jessica Chastain as Billie Dawn (originally played by Judy Holliday). We saw a little bit of what she could do in a comedy and drama role in The Help, I think this role would be perfect for her.

  • Vince Vaughn as Harry Brock (originally played by Broderick Crawford). I don’t really like Vince Vaughn at all, but something tells me he has the lungs to play the overbearing, loud, boorish Harry.

  • Chris Pine as Paul Verrall (originally played by William Holden). He can do romance, drama, witty comedy, and looks great in glasses. PLUS, he would look terrific with Jessica Chastain. Here is a picture from the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards to prove it:

See, they look great together. :)

Well, wasn’t that a fun game?! I look forward to playing with you again in the future!

I’d love to hear how you would recast a favorite film. Leave your casting directions in the comments!

Maybe I should get paid for this.
