S-U-C-C-E-S-S, that's the way we spell success

By: Kaitlyn

When I was in seventh grade, my English teacher had a cheer that we would all do when we did something “good” in the class. It went like this: “S-U-C-C-E-S-S, that’s the way we spell success. Yeah yeah. Success.” Yes, this cheer has come in handy every single time I’ve needed to spell the word success, but it also kind of confused me.

From an early age, it’s ingrained in us that we need to be successful. We want to be successful more than anything else in the world. But what does that even mean? Does it mean that you’ll be rich? Does it mean that you’ll be famous? Or does that mean that you’ll do good at the job you have?

And what happens when we reach that moment of success? What then? Honestly, I can’t answer those questions for everyone.

But I do know one thing. I know who determines if you’re successful. No, it’s not your boss, professor, or people you know. Only YOU can decide what success is. And only you can make it happen.

To me, success is doing what you love and being happy. Happiness=success. I don’t think that your life is just a build up to one moment of great success. Life is full of tiny, successful moments. Take some time in your life on your busy road to success and take the time to think. Are you happy? If so, in that moment, you are successful. Your life is already a success. You are successful.
