Fangirling: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Edition

By: Kaitlyn and Sarah

Picture your dream man. He’s a brilliant actor, but humble. His style is impeccable, often wearing suits and bowties. His hair, face, body and overall look are adorable. Ok, hot. He’s hot. Most importantly, he looks approachable, like someone you would find reading The Catcher in the Rye at Starbucks.

Are you thinking who we’re thinking?

If you said Joseph Gordon-Levitt, you’re correct. If you said anyone else…well…

tumblr_mlumi0vJEP1rhpl3to1_1280Joe Go-Lev has that classic look to him. He can rock a suit, a cardigan (YES, PLEASE), or just a T-Shirt. We actually cried when we saw his spread in GQ Magazine. This isn’t an exaggeration.

He also seems so down to earth, which is something we love about him. He directs an “open collaborative production company” called Out of this has come so much awesome, such The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories Volumes 1 and 2.

Not to mention, he’s a wonderful actor. We’ve seen so many of his movies. We’d like to share with you each of our top three Joseph Gordon-Levitt movies.

  1. Inception is the immaculate conception of action movies. After seeing this movie, I would compare all other action movies to it – each coming up short (I’m looking at you Source Code and The Adjustment Bureau). Up until Looper (another JGL movie, oddly enough), I hadn’t really enjoyed an action movie. Every time I watch it, I see something new I didn’t catch before. It’s movies like this one that remind me why I love movies so much.

  2. A lesser-known JGL movie I adore is Hesher. Picture Joseph with long hair, shirtless, tattooed and not caring about anything. That’s Hesher. Despite ogling over his half-naked self, the movie has a great message. It also has other brilliant actors like Rainn Wilson and Natalie Portman.

  3. On the more serious side, I love 50/50. Cancer sucks. We all know this. But Joseph Gordon-Levitt does a stunning job of making it seem a little less sucky. He combines 50 percent poignancy and 50 percent humor to create this beautiful work of cinematic art. I cried. I laughed. I wanted to hug JGL more than ever.

Honorable mentions: Looper, Mysterious Skin, and, of course, (500) Days of Summer

  1. (500) Days of Summer without a doubt. This was the first movie that I saw JGL in and besides just being in awe of how awesome this film was to begin with, I found myself totally in love with him and his ability to just break out and dance in the middle of the street. He was quirky and honest and real and adorable. And perfect.

  2. 50/50 (Weird how these movie titles have fives and zeroes in them…) Something you should know about me is that I rarely cry during films. Rarely. I cried when King Kong fell off the empire state building and when Anne Hathaway gave a heart-wrenching performance of “On My Own.” However, this movie made me sob. Multiple times. Joseph Gordon-Levitt just made his character so painfully real.

  3. Treasure Planet. Did you know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the voice of Jim Hawkins in this film? I didn’t until a couple days ago. I practically went crazy when I discovered that.  As you know, I’m a total Disney fan, so to have the knowledge that JGL is preeeetttty much (close enough) to a Disney prince just completes my world.

Honorable mentions: Lincoln, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Inception

tumblr_ml0cmbRMMy1rwg7i8o1_500You just can’t go wrong with a guy that can rock a bowtie, sing crazy covers of famous songs, act with sincerity, and who promotes the art of undiscovered people around the world. Which is why we have no shame in fangirling and obsessing over Joseph Gordon-Levitt: The perfect man.

Still not convinced? Watch this.
